Easington Colliery Band – 2024 Champions

Easington Colliery Band made history on 17th March with an historic win at the Gala Theatre in Durham.
It’s the first time in the bands 108 year existence they became North of England Area Champions and are invited to play at the Royal Albert Hall on 5th October with 19 other world class bands.
Playing the very last performance of the weekend to an enthusiastic audience, the judges Professor Roger Webster and Sheona White gave glowing remarks on the band’s performance.
Before the overall prize was announced, the individual prizes were also awarded to the band, Best soprano was awarded to Peter Welsh, Best principal cornet went to Dan Robson, the percussion prize went to our full team of Steven Moore, Michael Mather, Joel Bell, Isobel Hall, Oliver Gould and Jacob Marchbank.

We’re very proud of our young team of percussion musicians, Isobel has recently turned 16, Oliver is 14 and Jacob is 13, we look forward to a long association together.
Our final prize was to our bass section of Linda Hobbs, Ian Gibson, Dan Knott and Lee French who retain the best bass section prize for the second year running.

It was a very special day for everyone especially band secretary Peter Lawson who has waited over 35 years to be able to lift the Geneva Trophy aloft in celebration of Easington Colliery Band.
